KATABA are happy to present the Fujishita Black Forged Damascus Hammered Finish series. 

Mr. Shinji Fujishita is one of the most famous master blade-smiths in Japan. He is based in Takefu city, Fukui prefecture. 

He has been awarded the Medal with Yellow Ribbon, the highest medal given to outstanding artisans, by the Japanese government. 

Mr. Fujishita’s knives are greatly valued being created by the highest skills, long experience and a deep understanding for steel’s characteristics. 

He is an expert in forging and heat treating carbon steel, he practices a unique forging method called Nimai Hiroge where two blades are placed

on top of each other and hammer beaten at the same time.

This carbon Damascus Collection is rustically beautiful and a stunning example of traditional Kurouchi finishing.

It has a total of 11 layers and a core of Aogami 2 chosen for its toughness and high hardness, the Hira (flat) of the knife is left with deliberate

impressions to give the blade better food release. 

 Please note: Due to the thinness of the Aogami carbon steel blade extreme care must be taken when using this knife.
